well honestly to say and hopefully semua agree lah. the brunei payah band kan maju and please correct me if im wrong. banyak talents di brunei ani. good potential but as for suggestions, why not try antar lagu to overseas? that's the only way the bands kan maju. coz music and bands market d brunei ani, mcm payah kan grow kalau nada support.
It's not about being supported by the government or not and yes true there are a lot of talented and potential musician here in our country but are they committed to what they are doing? by committed i mean willing to spend their entire fortune and their life and time in chasing their dreams and plus music industry is not at all that easy, There's talent and there's also looks, not to mention showmanship, without any of those you might as well hit the hay even though you know about music from A to Z. Getting recognition and support from our government is a long way to go and i hardly think it's anytime soon, Our chances of breaking free is outside of this country and all of you know this requires TIME and MONEY not to mention talent. Listener for local talents is growing here with the help of radio and internet but what about the artist? they have no space here to improve.

one thing for sure music in Brunei couldn't be concentrated as a full-time/1st-choice career. Unless there will be a development plan supported by the government, then Insyaallah the music industry will be same level as other Asian countries like Malaysia, Indonesia, etc. Just a personal thought of mine =)

true as horace said. this topic has been going on for many many years already and there's actually a lot of people raise this matter wayyyy back maybe even before some of us even thought about making a band. we cannot blame the government. we need to look at other things as well. like usedtohaveabeard said, are they committed?

true. you can make it as a career like a music instructor or maybe open up a music school something like that. but being a musician as a career is a bit hard now and then. but hopefully things will change in the future.
i dont know how some of us wanted to make music as career.. but here is my advice " Selagi ada keraja yang stabil dan yang bolih menjamin masa hadapan di brunei ani, jgn tah cari keraja yang alum ketani tau samada bolih menjamin masa hadapan ketani." . wait!! i know some of u mighty say " Kayarex ani pessimistic ehhh" ...
Majority of LTR members i see here are either teenagers or in their 20's... and only a few i think that had experince living outside of Brunei. in another word, u havent seen whats out there... kalau nganya visiting the countries will not reveal their whole music scene. u got to live there for years to know how the music scene is.
Talent in Brunei?? hmm... some will of course be defensive with the comment im about to make. First, what is ur understanding of talent? here i see if u can play 300bpm guitar solo or can play certain cover song note to note or kana galar Awie Brunei or Ella brunei ,Kidal brunei or Petrucci Brunei (ani paling banyak nie) are consider talent!! For me, talent is someone who potray their music in their OWN ORIGINAL Way (along with their abilities to play the instrument of course). but did u all know, by being called all that i mentioned above will not intrigue any music promoter outside of Brunei. In fact they will feel disgust if u consider u can make music that way. Another thing is too many bands that sounds much like indonesian band...im not gonna mention the name of those bands, but i can honestly tell u now u will not make it in malaysia nor indonesia. The only reason u make it here in Brunei bcos the DJ are ur friends. Dont u dare come up to me saying that its not true..bcoz i been there. Even things like Carta weekly on radios, those r all fake. i was voted and won best guitarist on kristal once ...i said to myself "WTF... banyak lagi guitarists yang way handal dari aku that their bands dont get recognition much. just bcoz my band got a lil more recognition doesnt mean they could judge my guitar playing through that mean. Everything that were/are done here in Brunei is just not how the real music world works.
This goes to the idea of doing music as career. Yes true we have maria, putri, the seeds, a band once (i hope they r not) or even my former band.. will have a hard time to compete with artist overseas. (jgn tah jauh...malaysia saja).. i know some of us ada try out di luar like KL.. tapi they pay themself to do di sana. is not bcoz they were call by those malaysian music promoters to record their music...u dont buy ur music that way just like malaysian idol or even AF..those are fake artist! they never went true the hardship of REAL musician.
Here is a little experience that my former band went thru. (and i hope u readers dont think that im trying to brag..but im not..) we were called once by music promoter in malaysia that handle King studio, King studio was the studio where big malaysian bands like Search, Wings, Lefthanded started out their music. We were told that Hillary Ang was interested in us. So we went to KL for negotiation, we had a great experince there meeting some big musicians there. after we went thru everything, my band as a whole think that we will back off, first reason is bcoz the promoter required us to stay in malaysia for at least 6months to record and to tour malaysia for promoting purposes. and we think we are not ready to give up our jobs for becoming famous musician. my job will not even let me have leaves more than 2weeks unless u have valid reason. but to tell my management i want to take 6 months leaves to become a musician??!! I think NOT! lol...may be a whole life time leaves LOL!.
so there u go... but i wont stop u if u really think u have the TALENT, but first take a look again at my advice up top. selagi ada org luar keraja di brunei, erti nya mase g ada tu kaja kosong.
ohh lastly, u want music to become a big main thing in Brunei?? hmm..u might wanna think twice. Lurus udah tu yang Kebawah duli ketani atu mau Brunei sebagai negara zikir. bcoz he knows whats best of us. to those metal fan out there, relax2 saja..aku ani metal jua even before most of u we born..but u will see the truth of what im saying here when u get more mature (not saying u r not..hehe)
bro, can u sms to my phone. i lost ur contact sal my phone kana curi time sbhyg jumat. can u believe that..adakah di masjid during puasa mase ada org sanggup buat brg mcm ani?haahaa..nasib jua nda ku bawa guitar ku. lol..
