Okay, lets make a small time travel with mainstream forms of metal & perkara2 yg sewaktu dengannya:

- 1970s: Led Zeppelin makes the worlds best song ever, the beatles breaks up because the PA systems arent sufficient enough, and the who invents "wall of sound" so the fuckers would hear them and black sabbath & co started to add heavy distortion to guitars and "heavy metal" was born. Punk borns in 1977 and gives heavy metal a push, but dies later because nobody fucking cared. Everyone thinks that this "heavy metal thing" will be a passing thing and just think about the Vietnam War.

- 1980s: The golden age of heavy metal and spandex. The technology made even heavier distortion possible, so getting the heavyness wasn't a problem anymore, add speed and technicality. Iron Maiden makes the second best song in the world and the most heavy metal hits in the along with Metallica. Punk turns into hardcore and some of the metalheads liked the speed, so they added those elements to their music and the more extreme forms of metal like power/death/thrash/black metal were born. Tommy Iommi started to tune down to C# and everyone else went after the same thing few years later.

- 1990s: Everyone got fed up with the eighties heavy metal and superlong songs and tried to avoid it like hell, almost all big name mainstream metalbands stop recording guitarsolos. Roadrunner gets a lions share of the metal market. Funkmetal freakshow Faith No More gives influence to Korn, that started to fuse down to drop A tuned metal guitars with hiphop, let Fred Durst loose with his cursing slippery tongue, that spawned numetal. Nine Inch Nails, Fear Factory and Rammstein introduces industrial rock/metal to the big crowds. Punk evolved into grunge and some Blink182 douches add popelements to punk.

- 2000s: Everyone got fed up with the cursing in numetal, numetal dies and gets replaced with metalcore from USA and those fuckers from In Flames who listen to Iron Maiden and stole their harmony licks created a melodeath in Sweden. Then the guys from Killswitch Engage listened to both NYHC and In Flames then mixed those two genres together and now everyone hates the result, but loves KsE. Guitar solos get back because everyone still loves Iron Maiden and kids start to "play" the songs Guitar Hero on their Playstations and thinking they wouldn't epic fail with a real guitar. Lordi wins Eurovision songcontest with a fucking record landslide, grindcore veteran Rotten Sound rises to the Finnish charts top 10 and Disturbed turns huge for some fucking unknown reason. No-one knows why-y-y-ay. Grunge evolves into AOR, and pop-punk evolves into emo, that everyone publicly hates but still secrectly listens to in their closets while fingering their mangina with their thumb. Those who still listened to "real fucking broootal ug-metal" started to listen bands like Meshuggah that did some unlistenable jazz shit in 4/4 timing and 8 string guitars thru mild distortion.

- 2010s: Everyone... what now? What will be the next big thing? If you ask me, it will be something that combines some new genre with metal. I hope it will be jungle or something other, cause thats pretty fucking sweet. Think a bands like Prodigy or Pendulum as a metalband.

Grunge! well ..nothing wrong with grunge. i listen to grunge dulu. anyone here thinks grunge is shit well they can fu#k oFf. im as metal as anyone here.. i went thru early listening to rock such as kiss in early 80's then turn to thrash/speed in 86 then pick up guitar in 87 then did my first metal gig in 91 then metal was like dying when metallica/megadeth started going mainstream (mtv bla bla...) and grunge was there. so i turn to grunge for awhile by playing drum for some bands... Pantera were there but not enough to get the metal scene up to what and how it was in late 80's. ... so yeah..i would thank grunge to keep my music in me in around 92-93..

but kalau ada sapa2 kan bckp pasal im a poser or what..tehn hahaha... u dont know who ur talking to yet. im getting older so there is a limit to my metal...kalau metal2 yang suara nya "tlampau lambut" then that will turn me off... only if their guitar riffs is some crazy ass then that would probably balance it.

poser ani is like someone bragging and nunjuk2 kan guitar nya yang mahal and all...tiap tahun jual beli guitar...tapi main mcm taie.. cant keep beat in their head. no timing,bad right hand picking (UNACCEtable for metal guitarist!!!!!)... and worse of all..."mengucap2 kan musician lain that they cant keep up beat during recording! when he himself cant keep with tempo during gigs!! haha... all u here should know who im talking about hahaha... lurus nda Boy inchpin! hahaa... i think 2010's ani should be like what Lamb of god is doing...or band like MPE.. u know riffing yang mcm guitar solo of 80's metal..u know.. very tight right hand picking with still more guitar solo in it. ( ohh NU-metal is ok...just that they were all like baru main guitar for a few years then started having bands that have song that rise up to chart in weeks of their release!!!)... crap! hahahaha.. just like the P2F..idol this or that.. AF (Air Fuck)... this r all easy way to stardom! Bullshit bullshit!
a music without some sort of solo (besides guitar) will not be constitute as a song ...IMFO!

so cana boy..we should think of way how to promote metal ...avoidin it from dying..u know what i mean..emo bla bla... disco,shuffle ..

its not 'dying' here so far dude... but we can still improve things to keep it alive. If we look back to our early pioneers (band2 metal brunei yg lama2 atu bah), i see most of them settle down udah, apatah lagi yg kawin branak pinak atu kan mcm my brother in law. He's one of the early metal promoter back in early nineties by creating zines yg drg cetak sendiri. Kitani tau plg zine ani cana usul nya, tapi the new generations masani, i dnt think most of them know! So kids, go back in time and learn ur history b4 talking shit tunggang tbalik! hahaha... well thts MHFO plg ni ah :)

But some ada lagi masih, we know it. Cuma nya drg ani malas kali udah kan expose segala projek drg atu. Tapi atu drg punya hal lah kan. Kalau aku pebaik ku tukar2 main genre, metal taie kah metal kamih kah dats my problem! i was talking to this guy who push my Former band duluuuuuuuuuuuu..haha..a very strong promoter in what ever business. he proved it once dulu smpai gadong jammed abis on that one night. he was saying he is trying to get underground bands to play somewhere ..u know. tmpat mlepaskan gian.. well i told him lets be serious to all musician..u cant make much $ here... lets leave $ matter behind and just play music..so i told him. well..i'll see how it go. coz kan get gigs (legal) payah masa ani..

old skool metal peeps crusify the new wave of bands?? like how?
most of the new bands that came out the 2000's esp around 2003 onward sounded similar in terms of the guitar sound. i would say is bcos of the technology. guitar Amp plays a big role in creating them. Like most band would go for peavey 5150,6505,XXX or mesa triple rectifier where they all sound very typical modern metal crunching of today. i noticed that after recordin my former bands' song using the peavey triple X (that time alum terdpt 6505...) and then someone else came in to the studio and said ;;" hey, is this the new INFLAME" album?? ...im like." whOOAATT??!!" ... then i realize its true that metal nowaday sounded similar "in terms of guitar sound"... i argue this with some NON metal listener who commented that metal songs generally sounded the same...but i told em that the chord progressions,timing etc etc are not... and i explained to them that it was the guitar sound that mislead them...

but then again... this people are being hypocrite...cuba dgr non metal local artists here... one of them lagi tia samaaaaaaaaaa all the way lagu nya dari first time ia keluar...MARIA!!! hahaha... lagu cinta lagu cinta lagu cinta...chord progression g ada yang dari lagu Spice GIRL!!! lagu cinta nganyaaa!! haha... karang udah umur 40 pun lagu cinta jua kedia ahh..nada g org minat hahaha...

the seeds??? puuihhh lagi hypocrite! mengucap kan local artist lain( yang lebih awal dari bisdurang) pasal their recording sound.... C'mon lahh during our time mana ada software canggih2 mcm masa ani... and he is comparing us all with their current sound... haha.. buduh bnr durang atu. that was after their debut song with Maria... they were saying how durang particular about recording sound... what?? with just guitar,bass and some percussion?? and no full set drum?? haha.. by that time my band had 12songs recorded using acoustic drum...and just recently the Seeds release their song with drums...TAPI PAKAI DRUM SOFTWARE??? WTF??? bullshit and hypocrite bnr...

kalau sapa2 minat the SEEDS ..thats fine with me.. lagu durang nda di nafikan lawa. tapi with one stupid comments like that would pissed me the hell off.

aku nda plg pernah dgr drg (The SEEDS) cakap cemani dude. I really like their sound quality.. lagu yg balik2 men d redio ah... But dats fucking hypocrite!! Try working with real acoustic drums then barutah muji diri have the best recording sound! complete bullshit!

ive been working for almost 6 years figuring out how to get a get a gud drum sound! Baru masani tah ku dpt figure out how to record drums even if its just wif 3 cheap mics. If u're working with a full set band, bek tah u guys prefer record a real drum set with a real human! my previous band dulu used drum programming, but i feel sick to use it after all! apa tah guna nya drummer if he's not doing anything??!

the interview was back in late 2007 or early 2008..nda ku ingat dude. di Kristal FM. i was listening tu..it was ptg balik kaja.. i was siok mdgr until ia kana tanya any advice or comment, sekali ia comment about the sound quality of the current local artist nda berapa,i agree with that coz with my former band punya recording was in 2002-2003 home recording with pirated software and crappy drum software..and the seeds masa atu record only vocal,guitar,bass and percussion which is kalau acoustic pun kira sanang di record. even with low budget equip. iatah ku ketawa mdgr latest song durang ani...kalau org nda tau,pikir durang real drum tu...but software plg tu actually.
tapi durang atu mengamah lah...i want to see durang main live full set wah then they will know how hard to mix the damn thing live!! apatah kan mix lagu metal... pikir durang sanang kali. puuihhh mun nganya record acoustic guitar alum challenging.
but thats besides the point of this thread plg ahh hehee... anyway... dude,ku mcm kenyaman mesa rectifier atu tapi mahal ahh..

yeah true...thats how i plan to do mine since i find it hard to work with my drummer when we r both busy.. its ok for pre production and its ok for final production. just that the seeds ani membagi comment as if durang ani experience in real studio situation of recording. a real studio recording session is totally different from home studio recording session... we have stress, nervousness, time and $$$ involve. and most of the time we r unable to be relax playing during recording due to aim perfect the first time... but financial driven is prolly the main factor laah.. iatah recording at home is better nowadays..plus cheap jua.
but we have to move with technology plg... why not use it when its here to make thing easier... even masa ani bnyk udah big studio with expensive analog system had to close down due to the increasing amount of cheaper home recording software and hardware... BUT!!! there is a down side... u will not get the experience with the cheaper package..so u will hav to go thru it...just like what i will have to go thru indulging into this new era of music production....

btw..how hardcore metallica fan is your brother?? coz kalau he started listening to em during Black album ..i wouldnt considered hardcore plg hehehe... but if he is hard and old skool metallica fan then he shud be like listen less to the newer metallica bcos it aint the metallica that i know... ( bullshit to metallica masa ani...) they forgot all the things that they said during their early days about make up...clothing and shit...fuck man durang ah.. mcm beludah ke langit perasan ku durang atu. thats why i listen to the newer metal bands.... i still respect metallica thou but just that im disappointed with how and what they r right now...

better quality recording sound not necessarily trying to be in the mainstream cos even with good recording of heavy fast beat metal will not be radio friendly and certainly will be off the mainstream.. so there..

hmm the next big thing... im thinking kan... di brunei ani banyk guitarist shows off their shredding skill on video and post em on youtube...im thinking..may be metal guitarist in brunei should do video of metal riffing and post em there... shredder ani bejurit. just like in the western... if dulu we mention shredders...lots of name came out... gilbert vai malmsteen banyk lah... tapi kalau metal riffer only few be name either hetfield or mustaine (im talking back in the late 80's and early 90's... kalau now banyk plg udah...but shredders pun banyak tia jua...
so cana ..we should get the metal guitarist to post the hardest guitar riffs they know on youtube or something... so ada jua kan di kelahi kan !! lol....
